What free business email actually is
The phrase is used for several different things. It can mean a free personal mailbox used for early customer contact, or a free or low-cost mailbox that sits on your own company domain and usually comes with limits on users, storage or administration. The two look similar on day one, but they differ in how customers see you, who controls access, and how easy it is to move later. Knowing which one you are choosing is the first step.
How to choose a mailbox on your own domain
If you want addresses that carry your company name, a few questions help before you commit to any route:
- Do you control the domain name, and who holds the login for it?
- How many mailboxes and how much storage are included, and what happens when you need more?
- Who holds the administrator account, and is there a second person who can recover it?
- Can you export your mail if you decide to move to a different setup later?
- Which addresses are public, such as enquiries, and which should stay personal?
Answering these on paper first usually makes the comparison between options much clearer.
